Plain Paratha Recipe

Paratha is a delicious Indian flatbread that is typically made with whole wheat flour, ghee, and water. Here is a simple recipe to make it at home:

Ingredients:

-       2 cups whole wheat flour

-       1 tsp salt

-       1 tbsp ghee

-       ¾ cup water

-       Additional flour for dusting

-       Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions:

1.   In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt.

2.   Add the ghee to the mixture and mix it in with your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

3.   Slowly add the water, a little at a time, and knead the dough until it comes together and is smooth and elastic. You may not need to use all the water.

4.   Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.

5.   After 15 minutes, divide the dough into equal-sized balls (about the size of a golf ball).

6.   Heat a griddle or a frying pan over medium-high heat.

7.   Take one of the dough balls and dust it with flour. Roll it out into a flat, round disc about 6-7 inches in diameter.

8.   Spread a little bit of ghee or oil over the surface of the rolled-out dough.

9.   Fold the dough in half and spread a little more ghee or oil on the surface.

10.                  Fold the dough in half again to form a triangle.

11.                  Roll out the dough into a triangle shape, making sure it is evenly thick and not too thin.

12.                  Place the paratha on the hot griddle or frying pan and cook for 1-2 minutes or until small bubbles start to appear on the surface.

13.                  Flip the paratha over and cook the other side for another 1-2 minutes or until golden brown spots appear on the surface.

14.                  Remove the paratha from the griddle or frying pan and place it on a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil or ghee.

15.                  Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls.

16.                  Serve the parathas hot with your favorite curry or chutney, or enjoy them as a delicious snack with some plain yogurt or pickle.
